Yankee Doodle Deadly! [02 Jul 2008|03:47pm]

mookiemom

Here they come again – the Sousa bands, the waving flags, the cheering crowds, and the fabulous fireworks. Ah, yes, it’s Yankee Doodle time again in America.  So let’s get ready to party.

It’s just that I really don’t understand what we’re celebrating.

I don’t really understand why millions of people in this country still pretend that they live in America the Beautiful. I don’t understand why they are not wailing in grief because Yankee Doodle is no longer “dandy.” I don’t understand why there is no widespread sadness about the tragic transformation of their national image.

In fact, in this eighth year of our Bush/PNAC captivity, far too few people in the United States are willing to acknowledge that Yankee Doodle Dandy has now become Yankee Doodle Deadly. The sad truth is that too few people are even remotely aware that the American flag, like Yankee Doodle, has lost every bit of its meaning.

For sure, on this Fourth of July, millions of US flags will be flown as if nothing untoward has happened to the nation they represent. So many Americans have no clue that their flag has lost its glory.  They do not realize that Yankee Doodle – along with any other symbol of the USA – now stands for immoral wars, a shattered Constitution, domestic spying, legalized torture, and corporate greed.

Operation Iraqi Takeover Hits a Dead End (For Now) [13 Jun 2008|04:37pm]

mookiemom
It’s not on the network news programs, because, in fact – it’s kind of secret. Even the
print media, where they’ve covered a bit of this story, don’t know very much about it. Whatever it is, U.S. officials refuse comment on the details. Even members of Congress are out of the loop, but it really does sound super!

It’s got one of those feel good Bushco names, - you know – like the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, Clear Skies, and – of course, Operation Iraqi Freedom. All these clever captions successfully sold Americans some really toxic legislation, and anesthetized their free fall into dictatorship and economic collapse.

So what’s to worry about a "US-Iraq Security Pact" with our good buddies in Iraq?

Heck, Americans want security and surely Iraqis want security, - and don’t we all just want to get along? It does sound eerily comforting after so many years of killing and maiming, so maybe our compassionate leader and his cohorts are really working to provide us with peace and prosperity after all. So why all the behind-closed-doors stuff? And why, after months of bargaining has it come to a no-deal dead end?

Find out why:

Sinking to New Depths: The Mad Hatter Lectures the Arab World! [19 May 2008|11:33am]

mookiemom
I don’t know who is writing George Bush’s speeches nowadays, but it has to be someone with really serious mental problems. It’s embarrassing enough when this clueless president attempts to speak spontaneously. Left to his own devices, he cannot string together a handful of simple words with any coherent continuity; just as he cannot offer rational responses to questions he apparently is unable to process. But when George Bush has a prepared speech to deliver to an apprehensive audience of 1,500 global policymakers and business leaders in the Middle East, you’d think he would say something intelligent. Think again.

It’s seems almost ridiculous when you do think about it, - but today, the President of these United States sought to lecture men whose cultures he does not understand, and whose history he does not know, and whose societies he has never studied, and whose people view him with distrust and disrespect, on how they should conduct their lives.

At an international conference of Arab notables, this arrogant, unpopular, ineffective, and insensitive man – George W. Bush - dared to pass himself off as a staunch defender of peace and freedom in the world, as well as the reigning champion of political freedom and women’s rights...
It is beyond insanity. Having George Bush lecture anyone about peace and freedom is much like Charles Manson giving a talk on positive group dynamics.

Our Forgotten Shame in the Green Zone - tvnl [13 Apr 2008|01:06pm]

mookiemom
I’ll admit it, I did not remember either. Even though we reported the story last year, so much has happened in Iraq that somehow I, too, had forgotten. The story, like so many others, had been swept under the proverbial rug by the corporate media, and within a day or so the world forgot about the Filipino workers in Iraq.

But a few days ago, I received a personal email from an officer serving in Iraq and housed in the Green Zone, and the story came back to me, full blast. Just a few words in the message reminded me of the forgotten horror that must be added to the countless crimes this administration is committing in Iraq.

This time around, I don’t want the story to become lost in the endless melee of death and destruction that defines this useless war. I just want to put it out into the public consciousness once again, so we don’t simply forget what is going on. This time around, it has to get some real attention.

What the Hell is an "Unpopular" War? [24 Mar 2008|08:50am]

mookiemom
‘Unpopular’ - un'pop•u•lar - Lacking general approval or acceptance.

Aw, gee.. The American people really don’t approve of the war. They’ve totally forgotten about the death and destruction in Afghanistan, but they just can’t find it in their hearts to give the war in Iraq a thumbs up. What a shame.

It’s so comforting to know that we’re in the midst of what the pundits now call an ‘unpopular war.’ I suppose it’s something like an unpopular brand of toothpaste, - not really terrible, but somewhat unappealing and not quite what the public wants. “It’s not the war, really,” we hear. “It’s the way it was fought.” It’s not the toothpaste either, I imagine, but something about the after taste.

Is it conceivable that that this illegal, immoral war, built on a mountain of lies and deceptions is merely unpopular? Is it possible that the death, the bloodshed, and the hundreds of billions of wasted dollars simply lack the general approval of most Americans?

One has to wonder what would happen in a ‘popular war.’...

Enabling a Madman: George Bush and American Amnesia [10 Mar 2008|06:21pm]

mookiemom
It just doesn’t stop. With painful consistency, there always is a new effrontery, a new attack on the Constitution, and a new slap in our collective faces. And every day, the American public responds largely in silent quiescence, seemingly unperturbed and indifferent to the insults and abuses being hurled at them from the man who reigns supreme in the White House.

And with this apathy, the people of the United States offer aid and comfort to their greatest enemies from within, and unwittingly give tacit approval to a madman and his boss.

I refuse to give total credit to Bush himself for his actions. The man does not have the intelligence, insight or experience to personally inflict all the damage done by his administration. However, for the sake of simplicity, I will refer to George Bush as the major culprit involved in the crimes against the nation and the world.. In fact, responsibility lies with the entire cadre of neocons and delusional managers who placed a sociopath in the White House and allowed him to play a role he was ill equipped to handle.

Therefore, just consider what George Bush managed to slip past a sleeping public in just the past few days...

2007 - Look Back in Anger! [30 Dec 2007|04:13pm]

mookiemom
... Americans seem to be a people with a very short memory span and a very limited sense of outrage. I don’t know what it will take to shake them into any semblance of collective outrage or united action. I do know however, that I am angrier at the close of this year than at the end of any other ear that has passed.

As you might well imagine, I am furious with the usual suspect:: the corporate thugs, the PNAC warmongers and the religious fanatics who have wreaked such irreparable havoc on us all. TVNL has raged against what they have done to destroy the lives of so many.. But this time around I am ever more unforgiving in my despair and pessimism because of what has NOT been done by those who could have and should have lived up to the promise of change
.
It was a year of stunning inaction, during which so much that might have been done, and that could have been done, was NOT done, 2007 was heralded as a year of hope and progress. It was not. At year’s end, the crimes of the Bush administration still were business as usual. At year’s end, every outrage against the nation and the world remained uninvestigated and unpunished.

And by the year’s end, members of both parties had joined forces to do nothing at all that might lead to a Happy New Year for anyone..

Just think about it for a minute. Here are some of the issues that could have been dealt with in 2007 and are OFF THE TABLE for any legislative action as I write. Even if every one of them had failed to pass a divided Congress, in the very least, the facts finally would have been placed in the public arena. In the very least, they would not have been swept under the proverbial rug of our shamefully intimidated and cowardly elected legislators.

As 2008 begins, here are SOME of the issues that have endangered our democracy and the lives of so many around the world. For all of 2007, there was no action, nor were there any plans to:

Draft Gore movement takes off with a vengeance! [12 Oct 2007|10:40pm]

insomnia

Two days ago, on October 10th, a petition hosted on draftgore.com to convince Al Gore to enter the race, had 135,000 signatures.

On Wednesday, the supporters of draftgore.com released a full-page ad in the New York Times, encouraging Al Gore to seek run for office again.

Since Wednesday, site traffic for draftgore.com has climbed like crazy... increasing even further after the initial date of the ad, to the point that the site's web traffic stats are rapidly approaching that of hillaryclinton.com.

Tonight, on the day of his Nobel Peace Prize win, the petition to encourage Al Gore to enter the race is about to top 200,000 people.

If you're amongst the millions of Democrats who believe that the best choice of the available candidates is "none of the above", or if you simply want to show your support for Al Gore and all of his efforts on behalf of the world's people, please visit http://draftgore.com, Take the time to sign the petition, add your voice, and help put him over the top.

Al Gore *CAN* beat Hillary Clinton to be the nominee, and he can be the next President... but if you are unsure of that fact, please consider this -- the time for showing your loud, vocal, open support for Al Gore to run for President is NOW, while he's got the world's attention and while he still has time to enter the race and raise funds. Not tomorrow. Not next week. NOW.

Every signature he receives will be a loud message to the rest of the Democratic Party that the era of Democratic complicity in rubber-stamping undeclared wars while leading the earth towards environmental destruction is over, and will no longer be tolerated by the voters. Even if Al Gore politely refuses to enter the race, you can at least feel sure that you've helped to advance the causes he is fighting for every day -- peace, ecological stability, and economic justice. The very threat that he might enter the race will help force leading Democratic candidates to put forward more aggressive proposals to protect the environment.

Support him now. Visit http://draftgore.com and sign the petition to add your voice to those who have already done so. Take the time to post about DraftGore on your site and let others know. (Feel free to copy and edit my post if you wish.) If you have a bit of free time, offer to volunteer. If you can spare a few bucks, please send them a donation. (It's as easy and painless as paying for an LJ account. You can even use PayPal!)

Al Gore was right about Iraq. He is right about the threat of global warming. And, best of all, he's not just content to be right, but he's out there fighting the good fight each and every day, while other Democratic candidates have compromised this country's strength, its Constitution, its economy, and ultimately, its future.

Al Gore deserves our support, and we all need a President like Al Gore.

Nobel Booby Prize For GW Bush! [12 Oct 2007|06:23pm]

mookiemom
Just think about it: Some of this week’s awards from the Nobel Committee went to people who must seem like the anti Christ to our pretentiously pious President, George W. Bush. For starters, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine went to Mario R. Capecchi, Martin J. Evans and Oliver Smithies who were recognized for a series of ground-breaking discoveries concerning embryonic stem cells! OH MY GAWD!

And, of course, this morning, the darkest of dark news descended on the White House when Bush’s nemesis Al Gore shared the Nobel Peace Prize with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change! ARMAGEDDON IS SURELY UPON US!...

...Okay, fair is fair. If we applaud one side, let’s give the other a nod as well. After all, we now live in a country in which war is peace and Fascism is democracy, good is evil and up is down. Nothing is as is was and nothing at all is as it should be. So why not enter the looking glass reality of George W. Bush and acknowledge what he has managed to ‘accomplish’ in so short a time?

In that pursuit, I hereby nominate George W. Bush, along with all of those who have supported behind his delusions, Booby Laureates of 2007! No man in recent history deserves this more.

George W. Bush and Black Holes! [22 Aug 2007|10:44am]

mookiemom
Most of us don’t know a helluva lot about black holes, and probably don’t really care to know very much about them. But in truth, black holes are really fascinating once you take a closer look…even to a lay person with not much background. Trust me on that for a bit.

For starters, what I do know is that a black hole is an area out in space that’s so huge that its gravitational pull is astounding. So, astounding, in fact, that nothing, absolutely nothing that gets close can escape being sucked into it. That means everything, no matter how massive, would be able to escape its pull and nothing we know could move fast enough to draw away from its gravitational power. Not even a beam of light.

Stay with me here and you’ll see where I going.

One more interesting bit: According to Einstein, objects of very great mass distort time and space so that the usual rules of geometry just can’t be used to explain their behavior. So, when it comes to a black hole, something strange happens. It has a boundary that’s very unusual. If you reached that boundary, you could pass through it, but you would not be able to back out. In fact, once you’ve passed through the boundary you’d be doomed to move closer and closer to the center of the black hole.

And then it would only be a very short time until you die.

Now, that’s all fairly interesting, but why would I want to write about black holes at all? Stay with me just a little bit longer, I promise to connect.

For the record, and just in case you do happen to get pulled into a black hole, rest assured that you wouldn’t really feel anything terribly unusual at first. If the hole was a really big one, you wouldn’t be torn apart until you were about half a million kilometers from the center. Imagine that. Even as you were being pulled towards certain doom you might not suspect that anything was terribly wrong.

I suppose, when it comes it black holes, in a way, bigger is better.

And in a way, a really big black hole has formed right here on earth, and right here in the good old USA. And in a most precarious way, we all are dangerously close to the boundary from which there is no return. For in an undeniable and almost inevitable way there is a direct nexus between a barely discernible black hole in our own land and the reign of George W. Bush.

For the sake of simplicity, let’s call it the Bush Black Hole and understand that we can’t see into its abyss because black holes are devoid of light. But if we take a look around, we become painfully aware of the things that have disappeared from our lives in the past seven years, never ever to be seen again. Some vanished in secret while others were tossed into the chasm with arrogant disregard of all that we once were as a nation.

No matter how it came to pass, so much of value has crossed a mysterious boundary into the oblivion of the Bush Black Hole. Tragically, much of what has disappeared has not yet been missed by so many Americans. They don’t have a clue that so much that was so vital to their lives has been hauled forever into the bowels of this administration.

DEAD ON THE FOURTH OF JULY! TVNL [03 Jul 2007|05:05pm]

mookiemom
For he’s a Yankee Doodle Dandy, Yankee Doodle Do or Die…. A real live nephew of his Uncle Sam, Dead on the Fourth of July… (with apologies to George M. Cohan)

Fly your flags, all you patriots; it’s another Fourth of July! Fire up the barbecues, ice up the beer and get ready to celebrate another Independence Day in the good old USA. And be sure not to miss the fabulous fireworks that so majestically explode in the night sky to the music of God Bless America. Makes you proud, doesn’t it?

And oh, while you’re at it, don’t give a moment’s thought to the men and women fighting the Bush/PNAC war in Iraq. You know, the troops who are out there supposedly fighting for your freedom, or for an end to terror, or for regime change, or for Iraqi liberation, or for the spread of democracy, or for oil, or for George Bush and Dick Cheney or whatever. Don’t let them spoil your fun. After all, it’s a holiday. Enjoy.

Heck, it’s a war, and people die, right? Have another hot dog. So what if nearly 3,600 Americans and nearly 300 ‘coalition’ forces are dead on this Fourth of July? So what if hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead on this Fourth of July? So what if tens of thousands of young men and women are no longer whole in mind and body? It’s a holiday. Play ball.

Stop Him Before He Kills More! [04 Feb 2007|08:01pm]

mookiemom
There is a serial killer living in the White House. He has spent the past six years successfully plotting the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people. Like others who kill without conscience, he remains unmoved by the ongoing bloodshed and destruction he has caused. And now, he is about to do it again.

Someone has to stop George W. Bush before he kills more!

Serial killers sometimes respond to inner voices telling them what to do. George Bush gets personal messages from his God and PNAC. His wars with Afghanistan and Iraq were panned and orchestrated by the war profiteers and ideologues who placed him into office in 2000. The regional chaos they needed to justify American military action in the region is going according to plan, and now the next stage is ready for launching. Any day now, the Bush Doctrine will be used to justify a killing machine that is gearing to attack Iran.

Someone has to stop him before he triggers Armageddon.

The Lethal Legacy of George W. Bush! [15 Nov 2006|01:02pm]

mookiemom
Sharing my latest article:

If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle… your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos. Martin Luther King, Jr.

THE REVELATION

Funny, all this time most of us really thought it was a war. Early on, many of us marched in futile protests to prevent Bushco from starting a war. And when the bombing of Baghdad began, we joined people all over the world to express our helpless outrage at what surely seemed to be the waging of an illegal and immoral war. In fact, for more than three and a half years of unrelenting bloodshed and horror, millions of us have railed against what we understood to be a bloody and costly PNAC war against Iraq. But we were wrong.

The new truth is that the invasion and occupation of Iraq, from its premeditated start to any improbable finish, is not at war at all

Today, winds of change are in the air, and there is little doubt that the military strategy in Iraq will change. But it will not change because a war is failing. It will not change because people are dying in greater and greater numbers. It will not change because the course taken by this President was a crime against a sovereign nation and the greatest deception every perpetrated on the American public.

It will not change because the Democrats won the Congress or because Jim Baker and his Study Group have come to town.

It will change only when the President, with his extraordinary war powers may decide that it must. And it will change in direct proportion to the way he believes history will view him in the future.

In short, the debacle in Iraq is not a failed war that is a human tragedy of horrific proportions. It is one thing and one thing only: the war against Iraq is the sole act by which George W. Bush hopes to be remembered. It is his war, it is his chess game, and in his mind it must become his greatest legacy.

THE REALITY

George W. Bush really believes that he can alter his destiny in the last two years of his presidency. He is convinced that he can call in the cavalry and turn his catastrophic venture into a magical success. He thinks that history will ignore the years that led to his ill-fated invasion and remember only whatever happens from here on in. He thinks that he will be judged by his illusory willingness to listen to saner voices and to consider more competent ideas. He truly believes he can morph his image from treachery to sainthood in the short time he has left in office.

His is totally delusional.

George W. Bush is losing it. He really may be oblivious to the house of cards that is crumbling all around him. He even may be unaware that his neocon handlers have abandoned ship and left him alone with the fiasco they steered him into. But he is fully cognizant of the calendar and he must be getting desperate. He will surely make an attempt to create a legacy that recognizes the man he wishes he could become. But he will fail.

No matter what happens in the next two years, George W. Bush cannot escape the real legacy he has earned through his own efforts. It is far too late for any more smoke and mirrors. Too much blood has been shed. Too many lies have been exposed. Too much incompetence has been displayed. It is far too late to sweep the first six years under the proverbial rug and turn the last two Bush years into some false paradise.

As much as George Bush tires to rehabilitate his legacy, It just isn’t going to happen....

Just Shut Up and LISTEN! [29 Aug 2006|07:33pm]

http://tvnewslies.org/html/shut_up_and_listen.html

Damn, but they're really stupid out there! Millions of uninformed Americans form opinions every single day about vital issues that affect all our lives. Sadly, they base their views on garbage they've collected from the mainstream news networks.

No wonder everything is as screwed up as it is! Maybe the sheeple of America could learn something from this article. It's past the time for good manners... not when we're on the brink of another war in Iran that, once again, the masses know nothing about.

You'll get the substance from the opening paragraphs...but you have to read it all to make a point to people you know who desperately need to be told that IF YOU GET YOUR NEWS FROM THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA then it's time to:

JUST SHUT AND LISTEN!

Enough! Just stop. You’ve had your say over and over and over. You’ve repeated yourself ad nauseam for years without making an iota of sense. You’ve accomplished nothing constructive, absolutely nothing. You’ve repeated the same nonsense over and over without knowing a single fact. So just cut it out. Now it’s time to close your mouth and open your ears.

Just shut up and listen!

All this time you’ve ignored people who know things you can’t even imagine. You’ve shut your eyes and your mind to people who have spent years gathering information and checking out their sources. You’ve dismissed people with skills and credentials you can’t even pronounce. And you’ve demeaned people with knowledge and experience you can’t even come close to.

All this time you’ve refused to hear a single thing they’ve said. You’ve strutted around like an arrogant peacock, believing you knew more than they. You had no basis for what you claimed to know. You just decided it was true. What unadulterated stupidity. It’s time to stop being a total idiot.

It’s time to just shut up and listen.

Read it all. The article covers the main areas of total ignorance and disinformation. Then get others to think about this.... it might help us all:

My comment today as TvNewsLIES co-editor:

Cronyism At Any Cost, Once Again!

Let’s see if the mainstream media once again ignore the incompetence, the ignorance, and the unmitigated hubris of the man whom President George W. Bush has just nominated to head the CIA. Let’s see if they if they bother to go back just five months to point out the shameless liberties that General Michael Hayden recently took with the content of the US Constitution.

Let’s see if they remind the American people of the statements made by today’s nominee to succeed Porter Goss as head of the agency. Let’s see if they quote his response from a reporter last January, when asked about the NSA warrantless spying being in violation of the fourth amendment.

For the sake of accuracy, here’s the actual exchange between Jonathan Landay of Knight Ridder and General Hayden. The highlights are ours:

Amazing letter from a pro-war Republican [27 Mar 2006|03:25pm]

This letter was sent to TvNewsLIES about LOOSE CHANGE 2 from a Pro-war Republican:

23-March-2006: "Saw the video on Google.........really angered, saddened, and then depressed me. What can we do? Geez..........I cried after watching it again. How could our country do this to our people? Are they Nazis? The ends justify the means? This is facism. I can't get my head around this.

I am a conservative, pro-war, Republican...........not anymore. I am just stunned. Never in my lifetime, I am 51, would I have considered our government capable of carrying out this subversion and MURDER to our own people. The shame is unbearable. Thank you for lifting the veil and opening my eyes. I am forever changed by this video. My innocence has been lost and I consider myself an informed individual. While I have always been proud to be an American, I feel nothing but shame now.

Dylan Avery, who made this film gives permission in the DVD for anyone to copy and distribute the DVD. So much for a profit motive. You really owe it to yourself and others to see this film. Please comment ONLY if you've seen it. There's no sense in any other conversation.
